Porch pirates across the country for months have been snatching FedEx packages that contain AT&T iPhones—within minutes or even seconds of delivery. The key to these swift crimes, investigators say: The thieves are armed with tracking numbers.

Some porch pirates are apparently after the new iPhone 16. Doorbell cameras across the U.S. are catching thieves stealing the new phones once they get delivered. Police say in some cases it could be an inside job.

Sparta police said they are looking for the man seen in Mosquera’s video, whom they said is considered a suspect. Mosquera said she bought the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max with one terabyte of memory from her carrier AT&T. The phone retails for $1,599, she said. The estimated ship date was between Sept. 26 and Oct. 10.
